Every hidden gem needs a guardian, and ours is Shakes — our on-site caretaker and the heart of Hidden Gem Cottages.
Shakes is a great storyteller, with deep knowledge of Jamaica’s history, culture, and everyday life. He’s well known, loved, and respected in the local community — not just for his wisdom, but for his kindness.
A lifelong student of Jamaica’s natural treasures, Shakes knows the holistic uses of the herbs and plants that grow right here in Negril. Guests love sitting with him by the fire pit or under the stars, hearing his stories and feeling the calm of his gentle spirit.
